On 18/12/12 I was able to get out in the Whistler back country with a couple of friends. Hopefully this is just the beginning on another insane season in Whistler.

I've been living back in Calgary for the past 3 weeks. WOW, didn't ever think that would happen. It's the slow season right now in Whistler so not much is happening out there as far as jobs go. Also the weather has been a bit of a bummer all summer long so I'm thankful to be following the sun. Monday I started a job working in a welding shop. I'll be working there for the next few month to save up money for the winter season. My summer thus far has been filled with California beaches and sun so joining the workforce again isn't so bad... To be honest, it's kinda nice to work hard. On some level it feels good inside. My buddy Taylor said, "There's something noble about just working hard no matter what that job is..." I think he's right, compared to what I'm used to, my job is could seem like a step backwards but at the end of the day work, is work. And working hard feels good. I had a dream that I had huge biceps and I was flexing them for everyone to see, so maybe that dream will come true. I kinda hope it does.

Anyway, I've had this life motto ever since my buddy Willy Branlund coined it a few years back and that motto is "God and Art". I don't really know why I like it so much but I think it's simplicity is what attracted me to it. I feel that I've been called to live a simple life. Kinda... Well, simple in some ways, not so simple in others. But as far as life pursuits go I want to pursue those two things. Hopefully it will be a noble pursuit at that! HA! But just for the record I also want a wife and kids... I'm getting uber jealous of my brother and his rad little boy. But back to my point... the point of this whole post is that I wanted it to be a super quick one.... so there you go. Super quick blog post. Done and done.

Life on the west coast of British Columbia has been amazing, great things are taking place here. One in particular is the warm spring air that is upon us. April and May were cold cloudy months and now with the warm weather that's slowly creeping up on us my heart is coming alive. Not gonna lie, I already miss snowboarding but summer is coming and that's something to be thankful for. Enjoy every season in life I guess... Oh and the Canucks are playing in game 5 tonight... Hopefully they can pull some magic out of their ass and bring the cup back to Canada. I will leave you guys with some heart warming photo's I've taken over the last few weeks...

benjamin michael douglas webbhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09029649012004062904noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1813125978020741616.post-16066829441430012162011-03-08T00:23:00.000-08:002011-03-08T00:38:21.459-08:00Ear Milk...Whoa,

Been getting super jazzed on this band Foster the People. I first heard the song "Pumped up Kicks" about 8 months ago. To be totally honest I liked the song but I was never inspired to dig deeper and check out the band. A couple days ago I heard the song Helena Beat and I got hooked! They released an EP earlier this year with three songs... the three songs I've been listening to for the last four hours... shit, this is good. I'm going to listen to it till I'm sick of it and you can to! I present to you: Foster the People!

Foster The People - Houdini by thediscoverialist

Foster The People - Helena Beat by Pretty Much Amazing

Foster the People - Pumped Up Kicks by I HEART NEW YORK

benjamin michael douglas webbhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09029649012004062904noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1813125978020741616.post-54007055227958569722010-12-27T12:17:00.000-08:002010-12-29T14:28:44.786-08:00Guest holiday post from my mother... Take it away Mom!The front door is left unlocked and nightly, I hear it squeak open in the wee hours. This is followed by a familiar tread up the stairs and the light goes on briefly in the bathroom followed by the slam of two bedroom doors. I roll over and fall deeply asleep. Ben is home for the holidays and I am enjoying the almost forgotten rhythm of life with him at home. My world for a few days will be a busier but happier place.
If I am fortunate, the urge to cook will overpower Ben and he will treat us to a gastronomic delight. Nothing better than a warm kitchen, redolent with the fragrance of some savory dish accompanied Ben's comments on my cooking abilities (or sad lack there of) and my uneducated palate. However, this is why one has children, to open up one's world to unforeseen possibilities, places and previously undetected areas requiring polish.
Also, if I am fortunate, the opportunity will arise to have conversation with Ben. One of the things that warms my heart and feeds my spirit is such dialogue. I can count on a different perspective that will give me much to mull over. A man of many insights is this son of my heart. A man of the question. And perhaps along the way, he just may push a button or two.
So, while I may find a coat or two on the floor, a topsy turvey bedroom, crumbs on the counter, leftovers vanishing, and perhaps receive a noogie or two while preparing dinner, I know I can count on hearing "Mom" being bellowed down the stairs for a few more days and I am content.
So nice to have you home Ben, you bring laughter with you.
.....and for what it's worth.....it's your hair....dread it if you want.

benjamin michael douglas webbhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09029649012004062904noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1813125978020741616.post-78455419671446866432010-12-06T12:18:00.001-08:002010-12-06T12:18:58.317-08:00Ben webbbenjamin michael douglas webbhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09029649012004062904noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1813125978020741616.post-67180094028170746152010-11-08T21:09:00.000-08:002010-11-08T22:50:38.728-08:00So I kinda like... won some stuff! So one sunny day in early September my good friend Josh asked me if I wanted to enter a film festival here in Whistler... called the B-Grade Horror Fest. Like always when people ask me to do something I said yes. Having never entered a film festival before the idea appealed to me. But like most casual conversations go we didn't end up talking about it again until a week before the entry deadline. We decided to go ahead and shoot something and my thinking was, "well even though this thing is last minute without any preparation, something is better than nothing." As we started churning out ideas I have to admit that I had pretty low expectations for this film BUT I was stoked just to make something and when your unemployed anything to get you out of the house and giving you some direction in life is good. So we shot... and well... I devoted a whole week to making a 3 minute pop horror flick (gotta give cred to Jamie McLeod for that catchy phrase). Our idea was to sneak in and shoot in an abandoned burnt down house but it was under some heavy security and would be pretty hard to actually pull off (you can actually see the house in the second shot of the movie). So we ended up just running around Whistler with guns for an epic Killer vs Victim chase scene along with some scenic time laps shots. Pretty simple idea... I think it took the whole week to actually get all the shots. We shot the dialogue and night scene two different days. I was very please with the continuity of all the shots. We pulled of pretty similar lighting both nights. We used the most ghetto set up... one halogen light. I know riiiight?!?! I got to the editing before we had even finished shooting, which was probably a good idea because when I wasn't shooting with Josh I was cooped up in my room trying to lock down the edit. We made the entry deadline by a matter of hours... To my astonishment we had actually come up with something pretty cool. Three minutes of a thrilling chase scene, ending with a comedic shot to the face... pretty good riiight? So the big day comes and we show up to this crazy horror festival. I think there were 17 other entries in the fest and people had entered from as far away as Toronto and Japan. I told myself I would be please if we got in the top 5 (I gotta admit, I still had pretty low expectations but that was probably because I am my hardest critic). They showed the films in 3 different parts because they wanted to give pee breaks to all the wasted drunk people in the audience. Supposedly they were showing the films in no particular order but the general consensus was the later your film was played the better you did. So I eagerly sat in my seat waiting to see my film play on 4 big screens in front of 1000 crazy partying Whistlerites. As the last intermission ended I actually was getting nervous that they forgot to play our film. I thought there was no way we could have been one of the final films to play but to my surprise they ended up playing our film second last. As soon as the last film ended they started giving out the awards... and here comes the cool part... the part that I've been trying to build up to this whole time... We actually won some stuff!!! Best FX, Best Death, and Rookie of the Year to be exact. But you know what??? I shouldn't be so surprised that we won so much. I mean come on, I am pretty dang good at make cool videos. The film was pretty witty and clever and the cinematography was also pretty dang dope (I'm hecka good at pulling focus). And with that I will leave you with some photos of the night along with the final product called...
Andale Mono (please watch in HD and full screen)

Thank you and have a good night,

Benbenjamin michael douglas webbhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09029649012004062904noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1813125978020741616.post-49597066001673457302010-10-26T14:19:00.000-07:002010-11-01T03:07:29.175-07:00The Best Burger Ever...Okay so I know that this will be a post of some debate but I wanted to share with you guys and gals the best burger I've ever eaten... And to be totally honest the first time I walked into this burger joint I wasn't expecting much. The place is called Vera's and there motto is "you can't beat Vera's meat." I always thought this slogan had sexual connotations but I guess I might just have my mind in the gutter... anyway they have many locations in the lower mainland but the only one I've ever been to is the location of Commercial Drive in East Vancouver... I think because I love East Van so much it may also effect the taste as well.

I think I've been to Vera's about 5 times in my life and I've ordered the same burger every single time. The 4 Cheese! Its a single patty with provolone, feta, cheddar and blue cheese. And then any of the usual topping you can think of... I get ketchup, mustard, mayo, Vera's Sauce, lettuce, raw onions, tomato, hot peppers, hot sauce, pickles and BBQ sauce on my burger. But you can also get pretty unique stuff put on it if your willing to pay some extra dollars... the items include Roasted garlic, fried onions, fried mushrooms, Jalapeno bottle caps, shredded cheddar, feta cheese, salsa, guacamole, bacon, Mediterranean Mix (black olives, feta & sundried tomatoes Blue cheese, provolone, fried salami, fried egg, a scoop of chili. So needless to say you could get pretty creative and come up with some original combination on your burger...

But alas, I like to keep it simple and for me it works... and until Vera's goes out of business or I die I will continue to swear by it as the best burger in the world... and just to let you guys know... I've eaten at some pretty legit burger joints. Here is a list of the burgers I've tried...

http://www.originaltommys.com/
http://www.petersdrivein.com/
http://www.splitzgrill.com/
http://www.in-n-out.com/
http://www.carlsjr.com/
http://www.fiveguys.com/

(okay, okay so my list isn't as legit as I'm claiming and for a foodie its pretty brutal but... Tommy's is also the shit so I wanted to somehow put it in my post...)

The list goes on and on but those are possibly the best... Oh by the way I know Carl's Jr. isn't really legit but they don't have them in Canada as far as I know... and I think of all the mainstream fast food chains they try the hardest to make a legit product. And in closing I want to leave everyone with a couple photos of my last visit to Vera's in hopes of inspiring ya'll to check it out!

and don't forget to check out

http://www.verasburgershack.com/

-Benjamin Michael Douglas Webbbenjamin michael douglas webbhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09029649012004062904noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1813125978020741616.post-13614571788975606742010-09-28T15:38:00.000-07:002010-09-28T16:05:01.176-07:00Edits, Edits, Edits...!So in this post I thought I would just post some of my own work that I've done in the past year or so... enjoy.

And lastly here is the Revolution... I pretty much forgot I even had this blog. But for realz I'm going to try to remember to update it like at least once a month... or more. I'm getting a super low goal so I can actually reach it! Okay well I will leave you with a piece I created the other day... I'm gonna start a revolution.

The Revolution from Benjamin Webb on Vimeo.
benjamin michael douglas webbhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09029649012004062904noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1813125978020741616.post-4642733351410959132010-03-04T12:11:00.000-08:002010-03-04T12:14:16.153-08:00Well Everyone!Okay sooo... So I'll be going to Costa Rica and central America for the rest of the month of March... I think its going to be good! I'll try to post some photos and maybe video of the trip periodically if I get the chance... Keep ya posted...!benjamin michael douglas webbhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09029649012004062904noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1813125978020741616.post-70970407472289467172010-03-02T11:28:00.000-08:002010-03-02T12:25:28.665-08:00Going Crazzzyyyy...Seriously... Keeping this blog updated is kinda hard for me. Mostly because I never remember I even have it. But I need to write on it more. Actually I would like to post music, personal projects, photos, and other stuff that I find interesting but... it hasn't really worked out like that. But I'm totally fine with that. This blog will be what it is... just a place for me to put whatever I feel like on it. And that being said, let me get down to what I was going to talk about...

I HAVE BEEN SOO FRIGGIN SICK AS OF LATE!!!! actually its been like a month and a half at least... pretty much ballz if you ask me. But like the wost part is that lately I've been feeling super light headed and it feels like I'm going to puke my guts out... I wanna see a neurologist but I would be in dept for the rest of my life! That makes me want to move back to Canada so at least I could get on some sort of list... even though I might die of old age before I ever see someone. And whats even worse is that this Friday I'm leaving for Central America for a month. I doubt I'll be feeling super by then... Sometimes I wonder is all this sickness is due to stress... haha. So the break down of me being sick is this... First back in the fall (I think around late October) I got the infamous H1N1! That was actually pretty cool because even though I was terribly sick, eventually I got better. And I could say that I got Swine Flu which is total bragging rights! But after Christmas, probably in mid January I came down with a cold which lasted about 2 weeks, started feeling a little bit better then out of nowhere the cold turned into bronchitis! And when I started really feeling it, I was on a work trip to San Fransisco so I couldn't really rest at all. And I'd say the bronchitis lasted for about 3 weeks... just a side note my roommate also came down with bronchitis as well. But the difference was the he ended up seeking medial attention and getting antibiotics where as I just tried to get better on my own... Then in mid February I went to Vancouver for the Olympics which was totally awesome and my heath at the time seemed fine but on the drive home I started feeling sick again. I thought I had just been hanging around my friend Ryan to much because he had started getting a cold a few days earlier but over the next few day my symptoms were getting worse and his were getting better. Sooo... I cracked and went to the doctor. I thought I has strep throat but when I was tested it came back negative. The doctor told me that I was dealing with the same virus that I had originally got back when I was sick in January. My body was trimming the weeds but they kept growing back. So he put me on antibiotics for 5 days and that was that... So this leads me to where I am right now. Its been about a week and a half since that doctors visit and so far I haven't felt any better. Sure my throat feels fine down but it seems like my health isn't improving at all. And in fact I may be feeling worse. I really don't understand all that is going on but I've been trying to change a few things about how I'm living. Like for starters I thought that I could drastically start feeling better if I was eating super healthy food. So I've been eating pretty much raw these last couple of days... The other major thing is that for I'd say the last 6-8 months I've been going to bed at the earliest 1am at night. I think this is finally catching up on me and I'm starting to feel the effects. So I've been trying to get to bed around 10pm every night. This, I feel is going to be pretty hard for me. And the last thing I've started to do is take crazy amounts of vitamins. I went to a local health food store yesterday and bought a bunch of stuff. So this is my hope in all of this... That by Friday I'll be feeling 100%... I hope this is realistic because it would be a crying shame for me to miss out on another trip. Last year I missed a Tahiti trip because I tore my Achilles tendon a week before I was supposed to leave. I'd really like to go on this trip... But who knows. There are 2 more days until Friday and a ton of work to do... I think this might be where the stress comes into play. But I guess we'll just have to see what happens. I'll keep this thing updated. And if you believe you could send up some prayers for me. Side note I've been getting alot of prayer which is amazing. Thank you to all who have prayed for me! But yeah time will tell I guess...

This is what I could be missing out on...

Costa Rica from digitalmeteo on Vimeo.
benjamin michael douglas webbhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09029649012004062904noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1813125978020741616.post-50642262745512498212009-12-29T00:05:00.001-08:002009-12-29T00:21:07.518-08:00first day of the rest of my life...Okay well some people reading this blog may have known that last march i tore my Achilles tendon snowboarding at Mt. Shasta. Long story short, this year i wasn't really planning on snowboarding at all but last week my physiotherapist told me my ankle was totally healed and that I could once again snowboard. Well that was great new for me because i was actually planning a snowboard trip in a couple weeks to Fernie B.C. in which i was more or less just along for the ride and wasn't really planning on going up to the mountain. But now with the blessing of medical professionals I am planning on riding... and actually tomorrow will be my first day back on the slopes! A few friends and I are going to beautiful Lake Louise for the day. I'm planning on taking it really easy, the last thing I would want to do is re injure my Achilles... So yeah needless to say I'm rather excited for tomorrow but a little hesitant as well. But really... a beautiful day with some of my best mates, and sliding down a icy hill with my feet strapped into a piece of wood... what could be better!

Isenseven - TIMES from ISENSEVEN on Vimeo.

benjamin michael douglas webbhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09029649012004062904noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1813125978020741616.post-89435764269799538962009-12-27T02:16:00.000-08:002009-12-27T02:23:37.750-08:00Okay there...
Well I've been meaning to do this for a while but I just haven't gotten around to it but... I made my own personal blog...! I guess lots of stuff can happen when you end up falling a sleep at 9:00pm and wake up at 1 in the morning feeling some what "refreshed"... So anyway I'm actually look forward to doing this thing. I have alot of ideas for it and well if you know me at all I guess you could say I'm a little bit "all over the map." I well mostly be posting things that currently inspire me and trying my best to give everyone an idea of who I really am... So yeah sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. My life is a crazy one indeed...

benjamin michael douglas webbhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09029649012004062904noreply@blogger.com0
